Indian Head

This indian head has been in our family for years. I remember my maternal grandmother having it when I was a young girl, and if my memory serves me well, she got it from a relative years before.

After Granny passed in 1993 my mother had it in her bedroom. She agreed to let me take it home when I asked if I could have it.

As you can see, this piece has been repaired a few times, and it makes me believe that it must have had some sentimental value. I wish I had more information, but it makes me happy to know that I have a piece of my family's memories.

Update, 1-18-13:

I never thought much about what this piece was used for. After some research I discovered that this American Indian Head is a Majolica Tobacco Jar Humidor. The hollow of the lid would house a sponge.
