Cigar Box Purse

This Macanudo Cigar Box Purse is so adorable! I got it from our local Goodwill Store for under $3.00.  I have a tiny collection of old cigar boxes, so when I spied this interesting purse, I knew I had to take it home.

The purse is made from a paper / wood cigar box, and it has lovely India glass beads for a handle. A tassel hangs from the handle.

The cigar box lid is connected with hinges,
which are tight, and in great working order.
The purse can be fastened shut with some type
of flexible beading wire adorned with small beads.
On the inside of the purse there is an insert with
a sweet story about 'LOVE' in blue print. The artist's name
and contact information is written in red at the bottom.
Another cute feature is the round mirror that is affixed to
the inside lid. Copyright information (the artist's initials
and the year 2003) is written directly below the mirror.
So, there you have it... the story of a another awesome find!

But wait, there's more...

It's the story behind the story of the purse.

I mentioned that the artist's name and contact information was printed on the inside of the purse... Absolute Custom Designs by Marsha Horner, Design Artist, K.C. MO. A quick Google search led me to an email address, and I was able to contact Ms. Horner, who sent me a lovely reply. Marsha indicated that my cigar box purse was one of the first she made, and that it had to have been purchased at an art show in Kansas City (I wonder how it ended up in Minnesota). She informed me that my type (wood with paper cover) went for $55.  I paid $2.99, but I would have gladly paid more!
Marsha mentioned that she has been a jewelry artist for 20 years.  She specializes in one of a kind pieces. Never one for mass production, Marsha designs and manufactures each piece by hand with a careful attention to design and fine craftsmanship.   Her designs are on display at two local Fine Art Galleries.
